The stock exchange has closed the week on a low as total turnover fell to Ushs 86.62 million from Ushs 1.56 billion the previous week. Stanbic Bank Uganda dominated the market with Ushs 60.71 million in turnover from 1.84 million shares traded at a stable price of Ushs 33.
British American Tobacco Uganda had 1,152 shares changing hands at Ushs 8,525 each to realize a turnover of Ushs 9.82 million. UMEME this week traded 18,896 shares to generate turnover of Ushs 8.88 million. Its price shed 5.05% from last week to close Friday’s trading session at Ushs 470.
National Insurance Corporation and Uganda Clays Limited share prices shrank by 11.76% and 5.56% during the week to Ushs 15 and Ushs 17, the counters moved 478,466 shares and 543 shares to register a turnover of Ushs 7.2 million and Ushs 9,231 respectively.
Among the cross listed counters, Nation Media Group was the biggest gainer as its share price grew by 16.13% to Ushs 6,905 while East Africa Breweries Limited was the biggest loser as its share price lost 4.99% to Ushs 9,721. The benchmark USE All Share Index dropped by 1.34% to 1,957.62.
The USE Local Share Index and C8* were down 1.18% and 1.17% to close this week at 324.03 and 101.96 respectively reflecting price reductions on the NIC and UCL counters.
The Uganda Shilling depreciated marginally this week due to increased interbank demand for the greenback. It was quoted at 3,371 as at midday on Friday.
In the coming week, there will be a Treasury bill auction with Ushs 135 billion being put on offer.
