Telecom giant MTN Uganda has announced an 8.4 percent growth in subscribers in the first quarter of 2014 bringing its total subscriber base to 9.5 million. The growth is mainly attributed to attractive bundled offers aimed at both acquisition and retention. Regionally focused sales and distribution campaigns further supported the performance.
According to the results released recently by the MTN Group in South Africa, MTN Uganda continued to show good growth and increased market share despite the high competition in the market. Data and Mobile Money remained key areas of focus for the company with MTN Uganda’s data subscribers exceeding 2.6 million.
The results also show Mobile money continues to grow with more than 5 million registered users each transacting on average five times a month. The popularity and growth of MTN Mobile Money supported by a large agent network exceeded 30,000 agents and significantly increased financial inclusion of the unbanked.
MTN Uganda CEO Mazen Mroue expressed his satisfaction with the company’s performance saying, “Our vision is to lead the delivery of a bold, new digital world to our customers. As MTN continues to fulfill this promise we remain committed to improve the lives of Ugandans by consistently providing consistent service and the best customer experience.
