Ithuba Holdings RF (Pty) Ltd which in August 2023 won a 10-year license to run Uganda’s national lottery, has also been awarded a licence to run Tanzania’s national lottery.

Ithuba, a black woman-owned business also runs the South African National Lottery since 2015.

Quoting an Ithuba statement, South Africa’s  Independent Online (IOL), an online media house,  said that Ithuba hailed the deal as a “major milestone in its advancement strategy to expand its footprint in Africa” that also “further demonstrated the company’s robust growth across the continent”.

“Today marks a historical milestone for us. Ithuba’s solutions, from our games to our technology, have been specifically developed for the African market. We are both proud and honoured to have been chosen as the National Lottery Operator in Tanzania. This expansion is a testament to our deep commitment to the continent and our capability to offer large jackpots and innovative games that resonate deeply with our players,” Mrs. Charmaine Mabuza, CEO of Ithuba is quoted as saying.

The Tanzanian deal brings to two, the number of national lottery licenses that Ithuba has clinched in East Africa in under a year. In August 2023, Ithuba was appointed the official operator of Uganda’s National Lottery. 

Mabuza also said that the Tanzanian partnership was as a clear indication of the company’s expertise in the lottery industry.

“We are excited to bring our signature approach to Tanzania, where we anticipate not only transforming the lottery experience, but also significantly contributing to community development and economic growth,” Mabuza added.

The company is said to have beaten 18 other businesses vying for the lucrative Tanzanian contract.
