Annual headline inflation hits 4.9%

The annual headline inflation for the year ending May 2015 rose to 4.9% compared to 3.6% recorded for the year ended April 2015. Arua center registered the highest annual inflation of 6.9 % compared to 5.0% recorded in April 2015.Gulu had the lowest at 1.0%

Annual food inflation registered a 6.6% increase compared to 2.2% rise recorded in April. Annual inflation for other goods increased to 4.1% up from 3.4% recorded in April this year.

According to Chris Mukiza, the Director of Macro Economics at Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) this performance was driven by an increase in prices of passion fruits, sweet banana, pineapples, water melons, tomatoes, onions, cabbage, carrots, beans, maize flour, rice and fish in most centres.
