MATATU, a popular local game translated into a mobile application by Kola Studios is increasingly penetrating into the market, with over 20,000 downloads globally since its inception in June, 2012. Terry Karungi, the production lead at
Kola Studios says MATATU is a replica of the local popular card game that has been played by Ugandans for years that has now been made digital.

“It is something a lot of Ugandans relate to and to package it in the digital platform is a form of cultural preservation. We are not only looking at Uganda, we are looking at Africa as a whole to determine which games have been played for years that would capture an audience once we preserve them in a digital platform,
