Alliott Global Alliance (‘AGA’) has expanded into Uganda’s law firm market by appointing award-winning law firm, KTA Advocates (KTA) in Kampala, to its membership.

Founded in 1979, Alliott Global Alliance is an international alliance of 220 independent law, accounting, and specialist advisory member firms in 95 countries. AGA is also one of the largest professional services alliances in Africa with law and accounting firm coverage in 17 countries⏤ Algeria, Botswana, Cameroon, Egypt, Kenya, Lesotho, Libya, Malawi, Mauritius, Morocco, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Tunisia, Zambia, Zimbabwe and now, Uganda.  

KTA Advocates, on the other hand, is one of Kampala’s leading corporate and commercial law firms and is an International Financial Law Review (IFLR1000) law firm. The law firm, which is best known for its focus on technology, media, telecommunications, intellectual property, and dispute resolution, is also recognised by World Trademark Review (WTR) 1000.

WTR 1000 identifies the leading professionals and firms that are deemed outstanding at obtaining, protecting, managing, enforcing and monetising trademarks.

Established in 2009, KTA is led by a team of 5 partners with over 100 years of combined experience. The partners are backed up by another 25 specialized attorneys (with over 50 years of experience), 2 retired justices (head consultants) and a team of 7 professional operations staff. 

“Exhibiting its expertise, the firm continues to successfully provide advisory services including corporate governance, project finance, international trade, dispute resolution & arbitration, tax finance, civil & commercial litigation, employment, real estate & property, security trustee services and estate planning and asset and wealth management,” reads a statement from the Alliott Global Alliance, announcing the development. 

KTA Advocates’ Asmahaney said that her firm’s affiliation with the Alliott Global Alliance ensures that the Alliance’s clients have access to a full range of legal, compliance and advisory services in Uganda. Similarly, KTA’s clients in Uganda and the East Africa region, now have access to the Alliance’s network of 220 law, accounting, and specialist advisory member firms in 95 countries, including 17 in Africa. 

“KTA’s affiliation (to AGA) ensures clients now have access to a full range of legal, compliance and advisory services in Uganda with AGA’s accounting member Tervuren GMS providing additional support in the form of audit and accounting services,” adds the statement. 

Commenting on the affiliation, Asmahaney Saad, the KTA Managing Partner and Head of the firm’s Corporate, Commercial and Projects Department, said joining AGA and being their legal representative for Uganda, is “a great honour for us and through membership, our profile has been given heightened visibility”. 

“We can now offer our clients with business interests further afield, access to like-minded and quality professionals who can assist them with their cross-border activities. Likewise, this important partnership, through mutual exchange of information and learning, will help support the plans we have for further expansion of our international corporate, commercial and projects, and technology, media, and telecommunications service offering,” Ms. Asmahaney added.
