Kenyans consumed more goods from South Africa and Uganda in 2017 than in the recent past, with the latter’s exports more than doubling, statistics from the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) have revealed.
The data, released recently, indicates that from January to November 2017, South Africa was the overall leader among all African states with its exports to Kenya earning Shs2 trillion.
Uganda came second as its exports to Kenya collected some Shs1.26 trillion from January to November 2017, compared to Shs635.9 billion earned in a corresponding period in 2016. This represents a 50% increase in Uganda’s export revenues from Kenya.
Uganda overtakes South Africa in November

In the month of November alone, Business Daily, a Kenyan business newspaper, reported that “Uganda overtook South Africa for the first time as the largest source of goods ordered by Kenyans, underlining the impact of drought which saw electricity and food imports shoot up.
