Ruparelia Group, through its construction company VCon  Construction, has won a USD9.1 million deal to construct various infrastructures to house the Faculty of Engineering at the Mbale-based Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU).

The project includes the construction and equipping of the main faculty block as well as hostels.

The two entities signed the project contract last week at the IUIU Kampala Campus. This follows a no-objection letter by the IsDB, the funder.  According to the agreement, the project is expected to be completed within 15 months.

Speaking after the signing, Prof. Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda, the IUIU Rector, said the project was long overdue and asked the contractor to complete the works within the agreed time frame and adhere to the agreed specifications and standards.

“This project is very important as science and technology is the driver of growth in e country and the entire world,” Gyagenda said.

Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia, the Ruparelia Group Chairman and a Director of VCON Construction assured the university that the project would be completed on time without compromising standards and quality.

“Currently, our company has 11 ongoing construction projects and this is going to be added on with enough technical capacity,” Ruparelia said.

Some of VCon’s completed projects include the multi-million dollar Kingdom Kampala Mall- a commercial building as well as two residential apartment projects- Tagore Living and Bukoto Living.

From initially exclusively constructing for the Ruparelia Group’s real estate and hospitality projects, VCon Construction is emerging as one of the large construction companies in Uganda, capable of handling more than 10 large projects simultaneously.
