President Museveni appoints 14 judges to Judiciary

With case backlog being a pain to the Judiciary, President Museveni has appointed 14 judges to the High Court and Court of Appeal. The judges will be approved by Parliament.

President Museveni has appointed 14 judges to appellant and high courts in a bid to fill the existing gaps in the courts of judicature.

The appointees, including four for the Court of Appeal, are subject to parliamentary vetting and approval. On Wednesday, Parliament notified the Appointments Committee to prepare to approve the presidential nominees on February 14 and 15.

According to Solomon Muyita, the head of communications at the Judiciary, the president appoints judges from a list of many that are forwarded to him by the Judicial Service Commission.

‘The Judicial Service Commission nominates potential candidates who they interview and do back ground checks before sending to the president to select. The president’s appointment is further subjected to parliamentary approval through the vetting process,
