Every great vision needs solid people: Meet IRA’s senior executives daring to drive insurance penetration to 1.4% by 2022 Over the last 10 years, Uganda’s insurance industry has grown significantly both quantitatively and qualitatively. However, even with this rich growth, penetration is yet to cross the 1 percent mark. The Insurance Regulatory Authority’s board in 2017, put up an ambitious plan- the Insurance Regulatory Authority Strategic Plan (2017/18-2021/22), which seeks to drive penetration from 0.8 percent to 1.4 percent. This will be achieved through strengthening the legal and regulatory; market supervision and enforcement frameworks as well as facilitating and promoting market development. The strategic plan also focuses on strengthening IRA’s institutional resilience for effective service delivery to all the sector players and consumers. To make this possible, a restructuring of IRA was undertaken, creating the necessary departments with the right talent and dynamic teams- each headed by an expert in the field.
