Advertising agencies re-elect MAAD McCann’s Stella Mpora Khan as Association Chair for 2020-2022; who else is on her team? Khan notes that the 2020-2022 leadership team will focus on strengthening partnerships with key industry stakeholders and creating platforms to strengthen the collaboration of industry players to drive policy around key industry issues.

The Uganda Advertising Association has re-elected Stella Mpora Khan, Managing Director Maad McCann, as the association chair, alongside her 2018/2019 executive committee counterparts comprising of Frank Muthusi- General Manager Fireworks Advertising, Robert Waweru- Director Saladin Media and Annette Sebba- Board Secretary- Maad McCann, at the Association’s Annual General Meeting held at Golden Tulip Hotel in Kampala yesterday.

Stella Mpora Khan is a seasoned team leader with proven qualities in leadership, Management and Administrative skills to drive mutual growth and success, with over 15 years ’professional experience as an Integrated Marketing, Communications and Advertising specialist who creates an impact on businesses and revenue while increasing profitability.

She is currently the Managing Director of Maad McCann and previously worked with Metropolitan Republic Uganda as PR, Digital & BTL Director, QG Saatchi & Saatchi as Head of Client Service and Lowe Scanad Uganda Ltd as Client Service Manager

Mpora rose from being Deputy Secretary on the 2018/2019 Executive Committee to Chairperson on the 2019/2020 committee which, based on her commendable leadership, was tasked to lead the association for another two-year term.

The committee prides itself in having revived the Association spirit, the relationship between the Association and the Uganda Media Owners Association (UMOA) and advancing the discussion on creating an advertising training and reward program with the aim of professionalizing the industry.

While accepting her and the team’s appointment, she said;

“Leading the association is a welcome challenge but there is need for all members to collaborate to strengthen our partnership and unite to focus on finding solutions to the crucial challenges affecting our business and industry in general.”

She noted that the 2020-2022 leadership team will focus on strengthening partnerships with key industry stakeholders and creating platforms to strengthen the collaboration of industry players to drive policy around key industry issues. Another key focus area for her will be professionalizing of the industry and building capacity for all members to ensure a more structured category.

At the same general meeting, Joshua Kamugabirwe, Regional Manager for Havas Media Group in Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania and Peter Igaga, Managing Director Grindstone Media were appointed as member representatives on the Executive Committee.

Frank Muthusi,

General Manager, Fireworks Advertising

Vice Chairman, UAA EXCO 2020/2022

Frank Muthusi is currently the General Manager of fireworks Advertising, one of the leading advertising, PR and Digital marketing agencies in Uganda. He carries 8 years of experience in the advertising industry, with a background in strategic planning, media buying, stakeholder management, administrative systems and operations management, having worked with over 70 local and international brands.

Prior to heading the Fireworks Advertising team, he was the Business Unit Manager of LOGGOS Plus, a member of the fireworks Advertising group that focuses on brand identity development, prior to which he also led the group’s Media Unit in 2017. He is a member and past President of AISEC Uganda (2010) and previously served on the Uganda Advertising Association Executive Committee as a Vice President (2019-2020) and Secretary General (2018-2019).

Frank is passionate about the advertising industry in Uganda and believes a joint membership under strong leadership will strengthen the voice and further the agenda of the Association.


Robert Waweru,

Executive Director, Saladin Media Advertising Limited

Secretary General, UAA EXCO 2020/2022

Robert Waweru is a seasoned project manager and management consultant with over 25 years working experience in the advertising industry.

He has assisted clients in both the public and private sectors in East Africa, having previously worked with Deloitte Uganda and Kenya.

He is currently the Executive Director of Saladin Media Advertising Limited where he has helped in bringing on board key accounts in Uganda, making Saladin Media one of the top ten key players in the media and advertising industry in Uganda.

This is his second term in office as the UAA Secretary General having started off as Member 1 on the 2018-2019 Executive Committee.


Annette Sebba,

Board Secretary, MAAD McCann

Deputy Secretary General, UAA 2020/2022

Annette Sebba has over 20 years of experience in advertising with an inclination towards graphic design and Art Direction. She has worked with some of Uganda’s leading brand communication agencies with international affiliations –The Advertising Firm, Adapt TBWA, QG Saachi & Saatchi and currently with MAAD McCann. Annette is also a lecturer at The Margaret Trowell School of Industrial Design and Fine Art, Makerere University, Kampala. She previously served on the UAA EXCO as the Deputy Treasurer (2019/2020) and is currently the Deputy Secretary General (2020/2022).


Joshua Kamugabirwe,

Regional Manager for Havas Media Group (Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania)

Member 1, UAA EXCO 2020/2022

Joshua Kamugabirwe is currently the Regional Manager for Havas Media Group in 3 East African countries namely; Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania, offering strategic leadership to different teams in managing different brands communication and marketing needs for the last 4 years. He carries 12 years of experience in communication with regard to advertising, marketing and strategic relationship management for reputable global and local, youthful and mass brands ranging from telecoms, FMCGs, Banking and social marketing sectors. His ad career started off in 2009 at Fireworks Advertising before joining Scan Group both in Uganda and Kenya after which he joined QG group and eventually Havas. This is his second stint at UAA committee leadership having been a member in the 2017 Executive and he is looking forward to contributing positively and offering support to the current leadership.


Peter Igaga

Managing Director Grindstone,

Member 2, UAAExco 2020/2022

Peter Igaga is a communications and marketing practitioner, trained facilitator, seasoned moderator, sales practitioner, emcee, social media influencer and Rotarian with a wealth of experience spanning over 17 years. He has worked extensively in Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and South Africa and is currently the Managing Director of Grindstone, a consultancy agency that has interests in Marketing/Communications, Human Capacity Building and Agribusiness. Igaga is a non-conventional thinker and believes in pushing the limits because there is always a way that it can get bigger and better. He is the creator and host of arguably one of the most popular local TV shows in Uganda on NTV dubbed “MEN” which to date remains one of the highest ranked TV programs in the country that seeks to address issues affecting m
