Vivo Energy Uganda has confirmed a fire incident at their depot in Kampala that happened today evening.
In a statement, Vivo says that they are working with the relevant authorities to investigate the incident.
“Vivo Energy Uganda, the company that distributes and markets Shell products and services, can confirm that there was a fire incident today at its Kampala Depot located on 7th Street Industrial Area,” the statement reads, adding:.
“Vivo Energy’s stringent emergency procedures were activated immediately and the fire has been contained within the location. We are working closely with the relevant authorities to respond to the incident and investigate the situation.”
The statement adds: “We can confirm that 11 people from the depot and a nearby street vendor unfortunately sustained injuries as a result of the incident and were immediately rushed to International Hospital Kampala (IHK), where they are currently receiving treatment. Three of these are currently in intensive care, a further one is in the high dependency unit, and the remaining eight people are being treated for minor injuries. We have contacted all these individuals’ families and will be remaining in close contact with all the admitted to monitor their condition and
ensure they are receiving the very best treatment and medical attention.”
The fuel distributor says further information will be issued when available. “We are currently unable to give any more details, however, we will issue further information when possible,” Vivo says.
