Ugandan investment banker Anne Aliker has been appointed Head, Africa Regions – Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB) at Standard Bank Group, Africa’s largest bank by assets.

Her appointment marks a major milestone not only in her distinguished career but also in the growing presence of Ugandan professionals in senior leadership roles across Africa’s financial sector.

It also underscores Standard Bank Group’s continued commitment to developing African leaders to drive the continent’s growth.

Luvuyo Masinda, Chief Executive of Corporate and Investment Banking at Standard Bank Group, said the appointment aligns with the bank’s vision to strengthen its leadership capacity and expand its footprint across the continent.

He noted that Aliker brings extensive experience and a proven track record in leading teams, driving growth, and deepening client relationships across multiple markets.

“Anne has demonstrated exceptional strategic leadership across our Africa and international business units,” Masinda said.

“Her experience, from leading CIB Uganda to heading Investment Banking for Africa Regions and International, and most recently as Group Head of Client Coverage, makes her well-positioned to lead the next chapter of our Africa business.”

A prolific career spanning two decades

A seasoned investment banker, Anne has held several senior leadership roles across East Africa and the wider continent at Standard Group stretching from early 2000’s.

Since March 2022, she has served as Group Head, Client Coverage at Standard Bank Group, a role in which she oversaw client engagement and strategic partnerships across markets.

Prior to that, she was Head of Investment Banking – Africa Regions from 2015, following her tenure as Executive and Head of Investment Banking, East Africa at CFC Stanbic Bank Kenya between 2008 and 2015.

During her time in Kenya, Anne led a regional investment banking team focused on project finance, capital markets (both debt and equity), advisory, and acquisition finance.

Before that, she served as Director and Head of Corporate & Investment Banking at Stanbic Bank Uganda from 2004 to 2008.

Her career trajectory reflects a deep understanding of regional markets and a consistent record of delivering innovative financial solutions across Africa.

Driving Africa’s growth through leadership diversity

Anne’s appointment adds to a growing list of Ugandan professionals holding senior roles within the Standard Bank Group.

These include Anne Juuko, Regional Head for Global Markets, East Africa; Francis Karuhanga, Regional Chief Executive for Southern and West Africa; Doreen Rwakatungu-Musiime, Group Chief Audit Executive; and Patrick Mweheire, who recently completed his term as Regional Chief Executive for East Africa and remains a senior Group executive.

Standard Bank’s leadership strategy places diversity and local expertise at the centre of its mission to “Drive Africa’s Growth.”

In her remarks following the appointment, Aliker said she was honoured to take on the role at a pivotal moment for the continent’s financial landscape.

“It’s a privilege to represent Uganda within Africa’s largest bank and to work with exceptional teams across our markets,” she said. “Driving Africa’s growth is more than a corporate purpose — it’s personal. It’s about empowering African businesses, connecting opportunities, and building sustainable impact across borders.”

Mumba Kalifungwa, Chief Executive of Stanbic Bank Uganda, praised Aliker’s appointment as a reflection of the calibre of Ugandan leadership within the Group.

He noted that Aliker’s rise is both a personal milestone and a symbol of Uganda’s growing influence in shaping Africa’s banking industry.

“Her success demonstrates the strength of Uganda’s financial talent and the Group’s commitment to developing African leaders to drive continental growth,” he said.

Paul Muganwa, Executive Director and Head of CIB at Stanbic Bank Uganda, also commended the move, describing Aliker as “a dynamic leader who has helped build one of the Group’s most successful CIB franchises.”

He added that her elevation affirms Standard Bank’s confidence in Ugandan professionals to lead major strategic portfolios.

Aliker’s appointment comes at a time when Standard Bank Group continues to expand its corporate and investment banking operations across Africa, reinforcing its position as a leading financial institution supporting regional integration and sustainable growth.
