Ahead of the world’s commemoration of the December 10, 2023’s 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR)⏤ the landmark document enshrining human rights and fundamental freedoms for all individuals, the U.S. Department of the Treasury (Treasury) has imposed sanctions on 20 individuals from 9 countries over what it says are human rights abuses. Including Uganda, the other countries are the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Haiti, Iran, Liberia, the People’s Republic of China and South Sudan.
