Mbarara City will host the expo to is expected to trigger different ideas that make tourism both meaningful and adventurous.

As part of its, drive to highlight opportunities available in the agriculture and tourism sectors, The Innovation Village Mbarara will host an Agri-Tourism Expo from March 29, 2021 to March 31, 2021.

The expo is expected to trigger different ideas that make tourism both meaningful and adventurous. Conversations will rotate around apiculture, aqua farming, horticulture, viticulture, floriculture and perm culture, among others.

The hope is that the expo will also open up new profitable markets for farm products and services and, provide travel experiences for a large regional market.

The Agri-Tourism Expo is a timely initiative in Mbarara.  As a food basket and major city in the western region of Uganda, there is an opportunity for farmers in Mbarara to marry agriculture with tourism.

A thriving industry of Agri-tourism would result into the germination of other sectors that will support the agricultural industry. These sectors include manufacturing, technology, creatives, artisans, entertainment, transport, health, media and photography, hospitality among others. Furthermore, the global conversation on climate change and sustainable living can be contributed to through building model farms.

At the moment, both agriculture and tourism operate in silos. This means that there are limited opportunities available to create more jobs for women and youth, develop new markets and foster meaningful partnerships along the supply chain in the different sectors. It is for this reason that The Innovation Village Mbarara is holding an exposition (expo) on Agri-Tourism.

To ensure the merging of industries, over 50 key stakeholders will be present at the expo, including agricultural specialists, environmentalists, economists, farmers and farmer organizations, donors, private sector, training institutions, government and non-governmental organizations involved in agriculture, tourism and rural development in Africa.

According to the western regional manager of The Innovation Village, Elaine Ayebazibwe, the event is expected to draw in 500 people over the course of three days.

The expo will feature farm tours and climax into a cocktail as well as remarks from Guest of honor. Attendees will be able to participate in the panel discussions and attend round table discussions on relevant topics.  They will also be able to interact with over 30 exhibitors from agriculture and the tourism industries and the general public.

On board for this event are a myriad of partners including Excel Hort Consult Agribusiness Incubator ltd (EHCAI), Uganda Tourism Board, Agro-tourism Association, Bushenyi Youth Forum Project, Acacia Hotel and GOFAN Uganda.
