This powerhouse lineup brings real-world experience in building, preserving, and transitioning family and business wealth across generations.

In a timely and strategic move to deepen conversations around wealth preservation and succession planning in Uganda, TARA Advocates—a leading women-led commercial law firm—will host the TARA Estate Planning Symposium 2025on Thursday, 15th May 2025, at Protea Hotel Kampala, from 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

Themed “Beyond Business: Building, Protecting, and Transitioning Family Wealth and Businesses for Lasting Legacies”, the half-day symposium brings together some of the region’s most accomplished minds in law, finance, leadership, and family enterprise to empower participants with insights and tools for effective estate planning and generational continuity.

The keynote address will be delivered by Mr. Deo J.B. Kayemba, former Chairman of the Uganda Manufacturers Association and Chairman of East African Roofing Systems Ltd.  

Mr. Deo J.B. Kayemba is a seasoned business leader and industrialist with a distinguished career in Uganda’s manufacturing sector. He served as Chairman of the Uganda Manufacturers Association (UMA) from 2022 to 2024, following an impactful tenure as Vice Chairman since 2017. Throughout his leadership at UMA, he was instrumental in strengthening the association’s governance structures and expanding its influence within Uganda’s industrial policy space.

Mr. Kayemba is the Chairman of East African Roofing Systems Ltd (EARS), a flagship steel manufacturing company he helped establish in 2001. EARS currently employs over 300 individuals and stands as a pillar of Uganda’s construction and industrial sectors. He is also the Managing Director of Kadeco Concrete, extending his footprint in the building materials industry.

During his term at UMA, Mr. Kayemba also chaired the Finance and Administration Committee, demonstrating strong stewardship in financial planning and institutional management. His deep knowledge of financial systems and industrial strategy made him a valuable voice in broader regulatory and capital markets conversations.

Notably, Mr. Kayemba also served as a Board Member of the Capital Markets Authority (CMA), where he championed the interests of local manufacturers and played a key role in shaping progressive financial policies.

Widely respected for his visionary leadership, ethical business practices, and advocacy for local content and industrial development, Mr. Kayemba remains a prominent figure in Uganda’s business community. His contributions continue to inspire a new generation of manufacturers committed to sustainable economic transformation.

Damalie Tibugwisa – Managing Partner, TARA Advocates: Versatile legal professional with multiple qualifications including Chartered Secretary, Insolvency Practitioner, and Certified Legal Auditor.   4. Owek. Hajj Minsi Mukasa & Family – Leaders, Namu Enterprises: Hajj Mukasa, Buganda’s Minister of Agriculture, is a former banker turned entrepreneur. Passionate about financial literacy and adult education with candid reflections on entrepreneurial failures and resilience.
  7. Patrick Ngolobe – Managing Partner, Africa Executive Leadership Solutions: Veteran HR and leadership development expert. Former HR Director at Umeme and Uganda Breweries. Renowned coach and family business advisor. Consulted for World Bank, URA, Mastercard Foundation, and advised top family-owned enterprises in Uganda.
  8. Tonny Mugisha – Regional Team Lead at EITON Capital: Tonny Mugisha is a Pan-African commercial strategist with over 15 years of experience across logistics, energy, and investment advisory. Currently serving as Regional Team Lead at EITON Capital, he leads growth and strategic partnerships across African markets. He previously served in key commercial roles at Vivo Energy, Aramex, and FedEx, where he drove client success in the manufacturing, mining, and logistics sectors. A graduate of Makerere University and Strathmore Business School, Tonny is known for his customer-first mindset, sales leadership, and passion for value-driven partnerships. 
  9. Winnie Maingi – Estate Planner, ICEA LION Trust Company (Kenya): Practices in estate planning, trust and family business advisory, with focus on succession and tax restructuring. Advocate of the High Court of Kenya. Pursuing LLM in Corporate Governance. Certified Trust & Estate Practitioner and Mediator.

The event will also spotlight Hajj Minsi Mukasa, Hajat Nulu Mukasa, and Hamis Ssewaggudde Mukasa—the family behind Namu Enterprises, a successful multigenerational electrical business—who will share their lived experience in family business governance and succession.
