Uganda has lost one of its most eminent legal scholars and outspoken guardians of the Constitution. Justice George Wilson Kanyeihamba, a retired Supreme Court Judge, renowned academic, human rights advocate, and constitutional lawyer, passed away on July 14th, 2025. Ahead of the world’s commemoration of the December 10, 2023’s 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR)⏤ the landmark document enshrining human rights and fundamental freedoms for all individuals, the U.S. Department of the Treasury (Treasury) has imposed sanctions on 20 individuals from 9 countries over what it says are human rights abuses.
