Jackie Nassejje, Finance Manager, Finance Trust Bank Limited Kampala, Uganda

Programme: New Managers Leadership Programme (NMLP)

Jackie Nassejje is a rising accounting and finance professional with over 8 years of experience. She is a Finance Manager, at Finance Trust Bank Limited, one of Uganda’s 25 tier-1 commercial banks.

She describes herself as a “dedicated, committed and honest” self-believer who likes to take on challenging work.

In her opinion, she believes, this is why she was appointed to a position that deputises the bank’s  Chief Finance Officer, even though she had barely served for a year as the Manager in charge of management reporting.

As a person, Jackie Nassejje has always lived by her “being true to my internal sense of self” principle. She says this has always helped her find a “common ground with others regardless of how different they are from me.”

It is therefore no wonder, she struck a chord with Strathmore University Business School’s New Managers Leadership Programme (NMLP).

The New Manager Leadership Programme (NMLP) is SBS’s entry-level leadership programme, built to nurture and grow new and or existing management talent. It focuses on improving effective presentation and communication skills, team dynamics, planning and budgeting, the effective feedback process, problem-solving and conflict resolution, decision-making skills as well as management styles.

“At the commencement of my leadership journey, the Bank enrolled me on the Strathmore Business School new Managers leadership programme (NMLP), and I must admit I was never left the same. A big part of my leadership journey has been impacted by lessons drawn from the programme especially those on personality awareness that was facilitated by Agnes Ruoro,” testifies Jackie.

“I have come to appreciate through my leadership journey the importance of authenticity because it has been a springboard for building trust and honesty in the teams I lead,” she says.

“This is the advice I would give any young leader starting. Each one of us is wonderfully and fearfully made; appreciate your uniqueness and lead from who you are, and remember that you do not have to be someone else to become a great leader. Allow yourself to learn, unlearn and relearn,” she concludes.
