Max Manzi is the Head of Legal and Company Secretary for BRAC Uganda Bank Ltd. effective 02nd January 2023. BRAC Uganda Bank Ltd is a Tier 2 Credit Institution licensed by Bank of Uganda to provide inclusive financial services to low-income communities for sustainable livelihoods.
Max has a wealth of legal and corporate governance experience and knowledge, gained from working as the Company Secretary and Head of Legal Departments at VisionFund Uganda Ltd and ABC Capital Bank Ltd. He also previously served with the Uganda Revenue Authority, Guaranty Trust Bank (U) Ltd and Zaale Otete & Co. Advocates in legal and compliance roles.
“My profound knowledge in corporate finance and governance has empowered me to offer strategic and effective stewardship in corporate governance. This has, in turn, facilitated institutions in enhancing their governance processes, risk management and compliance ratings,” he describes his experience.
Max holds a Master of Laws (LLM) from Makerere University, a Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre and a Bachelor of Laws degree, Hons (LLB) from Makerere University. He is currently finalising the Chartered Governance Qualifying Programme at the Chartered Governance Institute, UK & Ireland. He is also an enrolled Advocate of the High Court of Uganda and a Commissioner for Oaths. He is also a member of the Uganda Law Society, East Africa Law Society, Uganda Christian Lawyers’ Fraternity, and the Institute of Corporate Governance Uganda.
He has also served as the Secretary, Legal Committee of the Uganda Bankers Association from 2019 to 2020. During his earlier academic journey while at the Law Development Centre, he captained the team that represented Uganda at the 2014 International Court of Justice moot court competitions (JESSUP CUP) held in Washington, USA.
“I take pride in using the law as an enabler to support business and fuel sustainable success. My ambition is not just to be a devoted Legal advisor, but rather to have a full comprehension of the modus operandi of business hence being an impeccable lawyer both in the legal and business sense,” he says of his career goals and aspirations.
