Mugisha Muntu said farmers in the district have remained poor because they lack access to cheap financial services

The Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) party presidential candidate, Gen Mugisha Muntu, has promised to finance Savings and Credit Cooperative Societies in Kitagwenda farmers to enable them to improve on agriculture once elected.

Muntu made the promise during his rally at Kayombo Primary School playground in Kitagwenda town council on Wednesday.

He said farmers in the district have remained poor because they lack access to cheap financial services that would help them improve on agriculture by mechanizing it or buying quality seeds.

During the rally, a section of war veterans told Muntu that even when they immensely contributed to the liberation struggle that ushered in the National Resistance Movement -NRM government, they have since remained poor.

Through their chairperson, Vislam Mugenyi, the veterans said they needed financial support through their Kitagwenda District Veterans Sacco so that they can improve on their standards of living.

In response, Muntu said that the project for paying veterans is full of corrupt individuals but he promised to finance the Sacco once elected into the country’s top office.

Earlier on Wednesday, Muntu cancelled his rally in Kamwenge after disagreeing with police over the venue.    Muntu had planned to have his rally at Biguli Primary School playground in Biguli town council but due to a heavy downpour, the place became so hard to access by his team or even the supporters.

Consequently, he hired another venue at Biguli Church of Uganda playground, which was about 100 metres away from the original venue and communicated the change to his supporters.

But police rejected the new venue over unclear reasons, forcing him to cancel the rally. He said even when he knew he was on the right side of both the law and reason, he chose not to endanger the lives of his supporters or the general public by escalating the situation.

According to the Electoral Commission – EC campaign schedule, Muntu will tomorrow campaign in Kabarole and Bunyangabu districts for his campaigns.
