As part of events to mark Makerere University’s 100 years of academic excellence, Uganda’s First Lady and Education Minister Janet Museveni will this afternoon commission new buildings at the grand academic institution.
In a statement, the University management in a statement has revealed that Mrs. Museveni will be expected to lay a foundation stone at a new building belonging to the law school before meeting the University’s management team.
She will officially open the new building for the School of Dentistry, CTF1 and CTF2 as well as lay a foundation stone for the reconstruction of the iconic Main Building.

After opening up these new architectural structures, the First Lady will proceed to Freedom Square with the members of the University Council and the University’s management team.
Guidelines on how to access the University
The University has issued directives ahead of today’s visit by the First Lady scheduled for 2:00 PM this afternoon. These guidelines will ease your access to the university due to heavy security presence that will be expected on the University campus today.
Alternative parking slots have been provided by management, access to the main campus will only be via the eastern gate (from 6:00 am until midday) and the western gate access will be open all day long.
Ritah Namisango, Makerere University’s Prinicipal Public Relations Officer says;
“There will be no access through the main gate. After midday, there will be no access through th eatern gate as the minister will be commissioning the School of Dentistry, located in that vicinity,” she stated.
Pedestrians and motorists are advised to avoid carrying heavy bags for obvious security concerns this afternoon.
Vehicles will not be allowed to park in any other location apart from the designated parking slots as advised by Makerere University’s management.
“If you enter the University through the eastern gate (from 6am to midday), please drive and park strictly at Makerere University rugby grounds which is located below Nsibirwa Hall,” Namisango advises motorists.
Adding that: “If you enter the University through the Western gate, please drive and park strictly at the University’s main sports grounds which can be accessed through the junction heading to Makerere College School and School of Education”.

All people entering the University premises have been strongly advised to avoid carrying big and heavy bags so that you experience a fast and smooth security check at the different access points.
Due to heightened security concerns as a result of her First Lady’s presence, all those accessing the university today are strictly required to carry some sort of identification preferably a National ID or a Makerere University Identity card which will be presented to security to allow you access to the campus.
