All the 2,400 samples tested on April 28th, 2020 returned negative for Covid-19, the Ministry of Health has reported.
In a late-night 11:47 pm tweet on April 28th, the Ministry announced that out of the 534 samples taken from the community and 1, 866 samples from truck drivers, all returned negative.
“Total confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Uganda, still stand at 79. Total Covid-19 recoveries in Uganda are 52,” tweeted the Ministry.
Of the 79 cases, 13 remained active and 14 have been repatriated to their home countries- 6 to Kenya and 8 to Tanzania.
To date, the cumulative number of tested cases stand at 29,832.
Uganda has not registered any Covid-19 related death.
The first Ugandan Covid-19 patient to fully recover from the disease was discharged on April 11th 2020 after testing negative twice for the disease.
Addressing the country on April 28th 2020, President Museveni thanked all Ugandans, for heeding to the call to practice safety standards recommended by the Ministry of health. He also, among others thanked the healthcare workers for their bravery in the face of the enemy disease.
While he acknowledged the reduction of the disease in the country as evidenced by the absence of confirmed cases within the community in over 14-days; all new cases during this period have been imported, he, however, declined to ease down on the lockdown that goes on to May 5th, saying that more monitoring needs to be made and a definitive decision made thereafter.
