The Human Rights Network for Journalists in Uganda (HRNJ-U) has tasked the Clerk to Parliament, Jane Kibirige to reveal the source of a letter she signed directing media houses to replace journalists who had covered parliament for over 5 years.
Dated 9th March 2015 and addressed to editors of various media houses, the letter titled ‘Replacement of Parliamentary Reporters’ reads, “The purpose of this letter is to inform you that the parliamentary commission has in the interest of balanced media coverage of parliament, made a decision to the effect that all reporters who have been covering parliament for more than five years be replaced with effect from 1st May 2015. This is therefore to request that you arrange for a replacement for all parliamentary reporters from your organization who have been covering parliament since year 2009.
