The Minister of Works and Transport has asked Prof. David Mpango Kakuba, the airport authority’s Managing Director to hand over his office on June 22nd, ahead of his contract expiry, this June 30th, CEO East Africa Magazine has reliably learnt.
Two credible sources within CAA have separately told this reporter that Kakuba who assumed the Managing Director role in March 2017, following the sacking of the then Managing Director- Wenceslaus Rama Makuza, will not have his contract renewed over age limit.
He is reportedly 65 years, which is over the 60 years retirement age for civil servants in Uganda.
“Yes, his contract ends June 30th so he was asked to hand over next week June 22nd,” said one source, who asked not to be quoted.

Although it is not yet clear who will hold the fort in the interim, it is highly likely that it will be Mr. Fred Bamwesigye, the current Deputy Managing Director.
Before becoming Managing Director, Mr. Kakuba was the Deputy Managing Director of the same authority for nine years- since 2008. Before joining CAA, Dr. Kakuba was the Director Management Services/Corporation Secretary for National Water and Sewerage Corporation, a utility charged with the provision of Water and Sewerage Services in urban areas of Uganda for 14 years. Earlier he worked as Deputy Board Secretary of Uganda Electricity Board for six years.
A lawyer by profession, immediately after school he worked as a Senior Magistrate in the Judiciary. Prof. Kakuba holds a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Business Administration and a Bachelor’s degree of Laws. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators and a seasoned professional Company Secretary.
