Prudential Uganda and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) on Thursday last week held a breakfast meeting with over 160 heads of Human Resource from various industries to discuss matters of employee well-being and the changing work environment. This was arguably the first meeting bringing together heads of HR from various functions to discuss the changes ushered in by the pandemic.
Speaking to the HR managers, Julius Kakeeto, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, PostBank Uganda, articulated the critical role of HR to the business especially at this critical turn of the century. He called on the managers to be more aware of the strategic role of the HR function to business growth.
“It is important for HR managers to understand the things that guarantee success for a business and know how HR contributes to this. It is important that we all embrace technology and analytics, stay abreast of compliance issues and be agile enough to comply with changing laws and the heightened requirements of compliance,” he said.
The CEO, Prudential Uganda, Tetteh Ayitevie, reiterated Prudential Uganda’s commitment to work with stakeholders in the employment industry in Uganda to champion conversations on best employment practices.
“At prudential, our purpose is to help people make the most of life. This translates beyond our services to critical issues that influence the spaces in which we operate. This meeting is one of the many initiatives in an effort by Prudential to champion this conversation in the market and offer a platform where organisations can learn from each other and offer knowledge for the betterment of the industry,” said Tetteh.
Last year, Prudential Uganda in partnership with PWC, conducted an inaugural human capital management and best employment practices survey aimed at sharing new as well as innovative and best employment practices, among employers on critical issues for employees in the workplace.
The Prudential Best HR Practices Survey was an employee opinion and perceptions satisfaction survey. It measured and assessed employee’s views, attitudes, and perceptions of their organisation’s various HR practices. This year, Prudential and PwC will conduct the second survey.
Last year’s survey attracted over 500 organisations with over 1,200 responses from employees. 12 organisations were reorganized for best practices in the 12 thematic areas reviewed. This year’s survey will focus on employee wellbeing & the changing work environment.
