As of today Friday June 5, 2020, Uganda has 557 recorded cases of Coronavirus as numbers keeping growing. The bulk of these are truck drivers tested at border points.
Meanwhile, Prime minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda has gone into a 14-day self-isolation after some of ‘his close contacts’ tested positive for COVID-19.
According a press release issued today by the communications unit in the Premier’s office, Dr Rugunda himself had tested negative twice but chose to self-isolate as a health requirement.
The Prime minister states: “My test results turned out negative on Saturday, however, some of my contacts tested positive. I took another test yesterday 4th June 2020 that turned out negative.
As per health guidelines and requirements, I have decided to take a 14-day self-isolation effective 4th June 2020. Let us remain vigilant as we together fight COVID-19.”
While addressing the nation on June 1, 2020 about the country’s efforts against COVID-19, President Yoweri Museveni noted that “despite the recent spike in new cases, Uganda is still on top of the COVID-19 response with new cases under control and frontline systems working to ensure that those who test positive are given the treatment they need to recover.”
Public transport resumes
Public transport resumed yesterday June 4th 2020 with fairs more than doubling as mainly taxis and buses operated at half capacity as per the president’s directive to help curb the spread of Coronavirus.
The Kampala Taxi Operators Association has since released the new adjusted taxi fares for the Kampala Metropolitan and surrounding areas as follows.
