Majok Amou - the Nile Breweries Limited Marketing Lead speaks at an event to officially kick-start the "Unmatched in Gold" campaign.

JINJA, November 26th 2021-  Nile Breweries Limited has launched a campaign to celebrate the “Unmatched in Gold” status of Nile Special- its flagship beer brand.

As of this year, Nile Special boasts of 21 Monde Gold Medals and is arguably the most awarded beer in Uganda in the annual Monde Selection Awards.

Run by the “International Quality Institute” of Belgium, the prestigious annual Monde Selection subjects products to a 360° quality evaluation process on up to 25 criteria that analyse each product individually on various quality aspects that matter most to consumers.

“At Nile Breweries, AB INBEV Uganda, quality and safety are uncompromising pillars in the way we operate. Our passion for beer transfers to our commitment to quality that ensures our consumers enjoy the freshest, best-tasting beers. Nile Special Lager and Nile Special Stout have earned their position in the league of those that have brought pride to the country. Nile Special is simply UNMATCHED IN GOLD,” said the Nile Breweries Managing Director David Valencia, in a media statement released by the company.

“Nile Special has no equal in Uganda and Nile Breweries celebrates this achievement through the “Unmatched in Gold” campaign. Nile Special’s superior liquid is recognized within and outside the African continent,” said the company in a statement.

Valencia called upon Ugandans to join in the celebration through various in-trade and online activations.

Nile Special boasts of 21 Monde Gold Medals and is arguably the most awarded beer in Uganda in the annual Monde Selection Awards.

To kick-start, the celebratory campaign, the company said that Nile Breweries would contribute UGX100 million to Olympic Gold Champion Joshua Cheptegei’ training facility in Kapchorwa.

Uganda’s Cheptegei is the tenth man in history to hold the 5,000 m and 10,000 m world records concurrently, both set in 2020. In 2018, he set a world record for the 15 km road race and became the cross country world champion in 2019. In 2020, at a road race in Monaco, he set a new world road 5 km record of 12:51, breaking through the event’s 13-minute barrier, taking 9 seconds from the previous best time of 13:00, set by Kenya’s Sammy Kipketer in 2000. In August 2020, at the Monaco Diamond League meet, he set a new 5,000 metres world record of 12:35.36, breaking Kenenisa Bekele’s 16-year-old world record of 12:37.35 set in Hengelo. On 7 October 2020, in Valencia, he set a world record time of 26:11.00 in the 10000 meters, which again improved on Kenenisa Bekele’s 15-year-old record by more than 6 seconds. At the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games (held in the summer of 2021), he won Olympic Gold in the 5000m, and Silver in the 10,000m.

Soon after his heroics in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Cheptegei launched a UGX1.7 billion fundraising drive towards the completion of a state-of-art training facility in Kapchorwa. The facility will comprise a world-class hostel, a fitness studio to attract both local and international athletes and a museum to preserve the stories of various Uganda athletes for posterity and inspire current and future athletes.

Nile Special is scheduled to start honouring its commitment in 2022.

“Joshua Cheptegei needs no introduction given what he has achieved for Uganda. He has brought so much pride to the nation and we want to honour him and his dream. We will be part of materializing his dream to bring Ugandans to the world stage through the construction of a training facility in the athletics cradle of this country – Kapchorwa,” said Valencia.

The Olympic Champion expressed gratitude towards Nile Special’s tangible interest in the training facility.

“It is has been my life-long dream to help young Ugandan athletes realize their dreams on the global stage. The project started in 2018 and since then a lot of investment has been injected into the construction of this facility. It’s, therefore, more satisfying to see that a brand of Nile Special’s stature has joined the cause. This will accelerate our move towards the fulfilment of this dream,” said Cheptegei.
