Makerere University’s Chancellor has reappointed Professor Barnabas Nawangwe as the Vice Chancellor for a second five-year term in office.
“Following the provisions of Section 31(4) of the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act, 2001 (as amended), and on the recommendation of the University Council, the Chancellor has reappointed Professor Barnabas Nawangwe for a second five-year term as Vice Chancellor of Makerere University with immediate effect,” reads an excerpt from a letter dated 12th August that is addressed to all staff and students of Makerere University.
Prof Nawangwe’s reappointment comes at a special moment during the University’s history as the legendary academic institution is celebrating a century of it’s existence.
“We express our deepest gratitude to the Chancellor and the University Council for recognising Professor Nawangwe’s distinguished service and granting him the opportunity to serve another term as we celebrate 100 years,” the appointment letter seen by this publication reads in part.
Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe’s reappointment letter that reinstates him to his Vice Chancellor position was signed off by Yusuf Kiranda the University Secretary with a Reference number Mak/US/606/2022.
“The University community congratulates Professor Nawangwe on this appointment and guarantees continued collaboration and support as Makerere University enters a new century of service to humanity,” the letter reads in conclusion.
