The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) Access and Usage survey 2014 estimates about 63% potential urban individual users are not using the internet. This is attributed to the fact that most do not know how to use it, do not feel they need it, or cannot afford it. Currently, Uganda’s internet penetration is at 25% compared to Kenya’s 50%. To this end, Vodafone Uganda has taken matters into its own hands by introducing an initiative dubbed ‘Vodafone Power Talks’. This initiative which was launched in the week ending Friday 24th April 2015 aims at inspiring businesses and individuals to embrace internet use and leverage the power of an online presence to grow.
According to the company’s new CEO Allan Richardson, the Talks will from time to time bring together key players in the Information Communications and Technology (ICT) ecosystem and a cross section of entrepreneurs. They will discuss at length the transformative power of ICT.
