Vodafone has officially launched its voice and data services bringing the number of telecoms in Uganda to 8. The company will initially roll out its 4G data services in Kampala and Entebbe and expand to other towns later. Customers from other regions in the country will in the meantime access 2G and 3G services.
Addressing journalists in Kampala recently, Vodafone Acting CEO Tage Rasmussen said the company chose to come to Uganda due to the country’s ICT readiness. In addition, Uganda’s population shows growth prospects for the industry.
“Out of a population of about 40 million, Uganda has 19.5 million mobile phone users which shows there is room for growth in the sector. There is tremendous growth in data access from 2.5 million people in 2010 to the current 9 million which shows this is a sector that has phenomenal growth. We believe the 4G data services we are bringing will give customers a completely different experience,
