Activity at the Ugandan Stock Exchange (USE) slowed down this week as total turnover fell to Ushs 268.71 million from Ushs 1.71 billion the previous week. Umeme registered the highest turnover of Ushs 241.15 million from 459,146 shares traded. Its share price was down 4.55% to Ushs 525. Stanbic Bank Uganda share price shed 3.7% to close at Ushs 26. The counter had 549,080 shares changing hands to realize a turnover of Ushs 14.28 million.
New Vision (NVL), Uganda Clays Limited (UCL) and Bank of Baroda Uganda (BOBU) had turnover of Ushs 12.09 million, Ushs 787,350 and Ushs 219,532 as a result of trading 20,511 shares, 52,490 shares and 1,546 shares each. NVL share price lost 6.51% to end the week at Ushs 560, UCL was stable at Ushs 15 while BOBU dipped 4.7% to close at Ushs 142.
National Insurance Corporation (NIC) recorded the least turnover of Ushs 186,069 from 16,912 shares exchanged. Its share price lost 8.33% to Ushs 11.
Among the cross listings, Centum Investments made the biggest gain of 3.36% to end the week at Ushs 1,601 while Uchumi Supermarkets share price lost 15.7% to Ushs 102.
The USE All Share Index fell by 0.92% to close the week at 1,750.02. The USE Local Share Index and C8* were down 3.02% and 2.46% to close the week at 389.5 and 123.26 respectively due to the price dips registered on more than half of the local listings.
The Uganda Shilling maintained stability this week owing to improved foreign currency inflows from investors ahead of the Treasury bond auction held on Wednesday coupled with dollar sales by companies preparing to pay taxes. It was quoted at 3,349 against the US Dollar as at Friday midday.
