Uganda Securities Exchange (USE) recorded more activity this week with 168.68 million shares changing hands to generate a turnover of Ushs 3.94 billion compared to the past week where 14.97 million shares were traded with Ushs 871.71 million in turnover.

Stanbic Bank registered the highest turnover of Ushs 3.72 billion as a result of trading 168.14 million shares. Its share price shed 8.33% to end the week at Ushs 22. Umeme had 334,422 shares exchanged at Ushs 550 each to record a turnover of Ushs 183.93 million. British American Tobacco Uganda (BATU), National Insurance Corporation (NIC) and DFCU Bank moved 1,000 shares, 200,000 shares and 1,700 shares to realize turnover of Ushs 25.5 million, Ushs 2.4 million and Ushs 1.45 million respectively. BATU share price was down 15% to Ushs 25,500, NIC was stable at Ushs 12 while DFCU lost 5.56% to close at a new 12 month low of Ushs 850.

Among the cross listings, Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) made the biggest gain of 6.65% to end the week at Ushs 1,975 while Nation Media Group (NMG) share price lost 3.28% to Ushs 5,452.

The USE All Share Index shed 0.61% to 1,761.7 due to price reductions on most of the cross listed counters. On the other hand the USE Local Share Index and C8* were also down 7.75% and 7.8% to 360.17 and 113.33 respectively.

The Uganda Shilling was stable in the course of the week before posting marginal gains on Friday supported by a central bank mop-up of excess local currency liquidity from the interbank market. It was quoted at 3,319.3 as at midday on Friday compared to 3,332.3 previously.
