Selestino Babungi, a Ugandan has been appointed the new Managing Director for utility company, Umeme, effective April 1st, 2015.
Babungi who previously served as Umeme’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO), replaces Charles Chapman, who will now remain on the board as a non-executive director.
He is the first Ugandan to head the utility company since Umeme Umeme took over a 20-year concession to run the distribution and supply of electricity from Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL), starting March 1st 2005.
In a board statement released on March 13th 2015, Babungi is credited for driving the “company’s business and financial strategy, leading to overall growth in Umeme’s financial performance over the years.
