Twitter is one of the major social media platforms that managed to attract various Uganda government agencies to publicize and promote their daily activities.
Below is a compilation of some of the Ugandan ministries, departments and agencies with many followers on twitter as of Monday 30th May 2022.
1- Parliament of Uganda
@Parliament_Ug. Parliament derives its mandate & functions from the 1995 Constitution, the Laws of Uganda & its Rules of Procedure.
Parliament’s twitter account was opened in September 2013, it follows 1,632 and has 581.2K followers.
The Speaker of Parliament of Uganda Anita Annet Among@AnitahAmong who doubles as the Bukedea District Woman MP has 131.1Kfollowers. @Thomas_Tayebwa is the deputy Speaker.
2-Uganda Police Force
@PoliceUg is the Official twitter account of the Uganda Police Force. It has a following of 552.2K followers.
3-Uganda Media Centre
@UgandaMediaCent is the Government of Uganda’s Official center for Public Communications. This twitter account was setup in October 2011 and now has over 469.4K followers.
4-Ministry of Health- Uganda
@MinofHealthUG is the Official Twitter Account of Ministry of Health Uganda. All information posted and viewed on this page is subject to Ministry of Health User Policy. MoH joined the global platform in November 2014 and now commands a worldwide following of 468,500 followers (468.5K).
5-State House Uganda
@StateHouseUg is the Official State House Uganda Twitter page. All Information Posted and Viewed on this page is subject to the State House User Policy. State House joined twitter in May 2011. The presidential home’s twitter popularity is quite impressive and stands at 411.6K followers.
While State House’s chief resident and President of the Republic of Uganda, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni @KagutaMuseveniwho joined in March 2010, he has a twitter following of 2.6 million followers.
6-Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA)
@KCCAUG The Central Government Body Administering Kampala City— #KCCAatWork. Affiliate twitter accounts include; @KCCASpox and @KCCAED
This @KCCAUG twitter account has a following of 283,000 followers.(283k)
7-Government of Uganda
@GovUganda is another extremely popular twitter account that is run by government. This is an official twitter account for Government of Uganda that unites and promotes activities from all ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs).
This Government-aided account joined twitter ten years ago in December 2012 and now boasts of a mega following of 266.1K followers.
8-Uganda Revenue Authority
@URAuganda A central government body in charge of collection and assessment of specified tax revenue, administration and enforcement of laws relating to such revenue.
Joined May 2012, follows 269 and has 260.1K followers on twitter.
9-UBC TV
@ubctvuganda is the Official Twitter Handle of the Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC), Uganda’s (@GovUganda) Public National Broadcaster. @MoICT_Ug
UBC is a government owned media & news company that joined twitter in August 2011 with a twitter following of 240.8K followers.
10- Makerere University
@Makerere is one of the oldest and most prestigious (government-owned) Universities in Africa. MUK is a leading institution for academic excellence, research and innovations.
Makerere joined twitter in January 2010 and has a following of 218.1K followers.
11- Bank of Uganda
@BOU_Official is the official Bank of Uganda Twitter account. Started April 2012 and has 188.7K followers.
12- Uganda Communications Commission
@UCC_Official is the official Twitter account of the Uganda Communications Commission.
TAGLINE:RT & Follow does not imply endorsement. UCC’s twitter following as of Monday 30th May 2022 stood at 180.2K followers.
The communications regulator only follows 196 accounts / entities on twitter.
UCC also maintains another twitter handle @ConsumerUCC that strictly deals with media and telecom complaints.

Spokesperson of the Ministry of Defence & Veteran Affairs (MODVA) joined twitter in February 2017 and has a following of 174.7K followers on the worldwide platform.

@OfficialFUFA is the Official twitter account for the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA). FUFA is located in Mengo along Sir Albert Cook Road, the national football federation joined twitter in June 2011 and has 165.8K followers.
15-Ministry of Finance
@mofpedU. The Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development derives its mandate and functions from the 1995 Constitution of the Republic of Uganda.
Joined twitter in October 2011. Mofped has a following of 128,100 followers.
On the other hand, the Finance minister twitter account, @MatiaK5 belongs to Hon Matia Kasaija the Minister of Finance, Planning & Economic Development, Republic of Uganda. He is also the Member of Parliament for Buyanja County, Kibaale District.
He joined twitter in January 2019 and now has a super following that reflects the popularity of his line ministry; Minister Kasaija’s twitter account has 47,000 followers.
16-National Water & Sewerage Corporation
@nwscug. This government corporation touches lives across the country and beyond. TAGLINE: “We are the Leading Customer Service Oriented Utility In the World. Email:info@nwsc.co.ug” joined twitter almost a decade ago in March 2011 NWSC has so far created over 129.2K tweets and now has over 122,900 followers (121.4K).
17- NSSF Uganda
@nssfug. The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) is a national savings scheme mandated to provide social security services to private sector employees in Uganda
Joined twitter in September 2011 and has 121,500 followers (119.6K).
18- Ministry of ICT&NG
@MoICT_Ug is the overall Government institution responsible for all matters of policy, laws, regulations and strategy for ICT & National Guidance in Uganda. MoICT joined twitter in December 2011 and now has 105,200 followers (105.2K)
19- Office of the Prime Minister – Uganda
@OPMUganda is the official Twitter Account of the Office of the Prime Minister – Uganda. MANTRA: “A coordinated, responsive and accountable government for Socio-Economic Transformation.” OPM has been on twitter since September 2013 and has accumulated 72,400 followers (72.4K).

25-Judiciary Uganda

27-Office of The UPDF Chief of Defence Forces
@cdfupdf is the twitter account for the Chief of Defence Forces. TAGLINE “Uganda People’s Defence Forces is a tri-service force comprising of the Land Forces, the Air Forces and Special Forces. The CDF is Gen Wilson Mbasu Mbadi.”

28-Inspectorate of Government – IGG
@IGGUganda’s tagline is: Zero Tolerance to Corruption. This IGG twitter account commenced in June 2011 and now has 41.8K followers on twitter alone.
29-Ministry of Foreign Affairs – Uganda
@UgandaMFA is the Official twitter account of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uganda. MFA joined twitter in July 2013 and has a following of 33.6K followers.
It has created over 9,494 tweets since its inception a decade ago.

@URSBHQ. URSB conducts Registrations and provides Information pertaining to Civil, Business and Intellectual Property matters, acts as Official Receiver and Liquidator.

This Amber House based ministry MEMD joined twitter in November 2014 and has 12,000 followers (12K).
39- National Council of Sports – Uganda
Is Official twitter account for National Council of Sports-Uganda, the Government body with the mandate to Develop, Promote and Control sports in the country.
This Lugogo based council joined twitter in August of 2016 and has a following of 12,500 followers (12.5K).

UCDA joined twitter in December 2012. It has a following of 10.8K followers on twitter.
46-Ministry of Tourism-Uganda
@MTWAUganda is the official Twitter page for the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities – Uganda and your source for major announcements and events.
The tourism ministry’s twitter account was set up in January 2014 and it has accumulated a global following of 10K followers.
47-National Forestry Authority-Uganda

49- Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development
@Mglsd_UG is the official twitter Account of the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development of the Republic of Uganda.
This ministry that regulates externalization of labour (manpower exports and gender issues) joined twitter in May 2019 and has a paltry following of only 7,146 followers on this popular social network.

MoLG’s twitter following is a mere 3,449 followers which is a humble online crowd considering the ministry’s nature of work.
