Francis Karuhanga, a Ugandan, has been named the new Chief Audit Officer at Standard Group.
“It is with great excitement that we announce the appointment of Francis Karuhanga as our new Chief Audit Officer, effective from 15 April. Francis takes over from Mike White, who has upheld the highest professional standards during his tenure. With over 21 years of experience in the financial industry, Francis’ astute leadership will be central in taking the Internal Audit function to greater heights,” Standard Bank, which is the parent company for Stanbic Bank announced.
Francis has grown through the ranks within the Group, starting off as an Internal Auditor for Uganda in 2001, then Internal Audit Manager for Uganda 2005, Country Head of Internal Audit for Uganda in 2012, Regional Internal Audit Executive (East Africa) from 2013 to 2015. Here, his role was to provide leadership to internal audit teams in the region covering Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi and Mauritius.
He then went on to become Group Head; Risk Management Audit in 2015 based in Johannesburg, South Africa, the Head; Risk, Compliance and Corporate Functions Audit in 2019 still in Johannesburg.
Karuhanga holds a Bachelor of Commerce, Accounting and a Master of Science in Accounting and Finance from Makerere University and a Diploma in Business Studies, Accounting and Finance from Makerere University Business School.
CEO East Africa, also understands that another Ugandan, Doreen Rwakatungu-Musiime, who was previously the Head of Internal Audit at Stanbic Uganda and the East Africa Region covering 5 countries, since 2016 has been promoted to Standard Bank Africa Regions Head of Audit. Her role covers 17 countries.
Before joining Stanbic Bank, Doreen, was Director, Internal Audit at Barclays (now Absa) having risen from Chief Internal Auditor and Associate Director Barclays Internal Audit.
Doreen holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Makerere University and a Masters of Business Administration from Bradford University School of Management.

Patrick Mweheire

Patrick is the Regional Chief Executive – East Africa (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia and South Sudan) at Standard Bank Group, a position he has held since March 2020.
Before his current position, he was the Chief Executive Officer for Stanbic Uganda from 2015 to 2020 and before that, was the Group Head of CIB and Regional Investment Banking Coverage based in Kampala from 2012 to 2014.
Patrick holds a Master’s in Business Administration from Harvard Business School.
Anna Aliker

Aliker is the Head, Investment Banking- Africa Regions at Standard Bank Group since 2015. She was, before her current position, the Executive & Head Investment Banking East Africa at CFC Stanbic Bank (2008 to 2015) where she led a Regional Investment Banking team that provides solutions to our client base in the following areas; Project Finance, Capital Markets (both Debt and Equity) and Advisory, and Diversified Lending including acquisition finance. The team executes transactions throughout East Africa, specifically, the Five EAC countries, South Sudan, and Mauritius.
Before that, she was Director and Head Corporate & Investment Banking at Stanbic Uganda from 2004 to 2008. Here, she led the Corporate & Investment Banking team, with responsibility for the Client portfolio and products including, Global Markets, Transactional banking and Investment banking.
Juliet Kahumuza

Kahumuza is Head Human Capital PBB Africa Regions at Standard Group based in Johannesburg, Gauteng South Africa. She has held the position from 2018. Juliet has for the last seven years grown through the ranks at the Group having started off as Project Manager in 2014 where her role was to assess and manage Impact on People resulting from business change interventions make recommendations and facilitate the implementation of such projects. Facilitate Change Impact Assessments, Change Readiness Assessments, Organisational Design (support the definition of new functions, structures), Learning and Development, stakeholder engagement and communication.
She went on to become Human Capital Business Partner from 2015 to 2016 and then Senior Business Partner from 2016 to 2018.
Kahumuza holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Human Resource Management and a Master of Commerce in Human Resource Management from University of Cape Town as well as a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from Graduate School of Business, University of Cape Town.
