RVR the concessionaire of the Uganda Kenya Railway in partnership with the Uganda Export Promotions Board (UEPB) have held a consultative workshop with a cross-section of the business community aimed at creating awareness about progress being made on the railway. The workshop also aimed at finding ways of increasing the volume of goods the business community in Uganda transports via rail which is still underutilized.
Speaking at a press briefing held at the Sheraton Hotel today, RVR’s Chief Commercial Manager Andreas Heinel said the company had made a lot of progress as a result of investments made in infrastructure and rolling stock by the new shareholders who took over operations in 2012. This has resulted in much greater reliability, faster turnaround times and improved commercial efficiencies.
He gave the example of the transit time between Mombasa and Kampala which is now only 6 days down from 14 when the new management took over.
