Philippe Groueix, General Manager of TotalEnergies EP Uganda

Philippe Groueix is a seasoned and highly skilled oil and gas professional with three decades of experience within Total Energies. 

He is currently the General Manager of TotalEnergies EP Uganda and Country Chair of TotalEnergies in Uganda. His assignment in Uganda began 1st of September 2021, with the responsibility to bring the Tilenga Oil Project to its first oil in 2025.

Phillipe continues to spearhead the significant progress in drilling over 426 oil wells and developing the Industrial Area, which will host a Central Processing Facility (CPF) capable of handling 190,000 barrels. 

Drilling began in June 2023 and is progressing in various fields, with 25 wells drilled utilizing three ZPEB-operated rigs.

Phillipe, through his leadership, has achieved other key milestones on the Tilenga Project such as hitting over 20 million man-hours without Lost Time Incidents (LTI). This significant industry milestone was achieved on August 10, 2023, exactly 226 days after the 10 million man-hour mark that was realized in January 2023.

With safety at the core of its operations, Total Energies EP Uganda has relentlessly established and maintained a safety culture among its over 8,000 employees and contractors aimed at reinforcing continuous vigilance of all the risks and mitigations in all the Company’s operations.

He has also successfully spearheaded the handover of 105 resettlement houses and titles to people whose primary residence was impacted during the identification of land for the construction of the Tilenga Project facilities and associated infrastructure in Buliisa and Nwoya District.

Before his assignment to Uganda, Phillipe was the Managing Director of Total Energies EP Denmark, a large operating affiliate in the North Sea with an ongoing USD 3 Billion major redevelopment project of Tyra field.

From December 2017 to March 2020, he was the Managing Director of TotalEnergies EP Bolivia and later Executive Vice President of Total Energies EP Indonesia from November 2013 to December 2017.

Phillipe has a strong operational background in field operations, projects and operations in Africa, Asia and South America with immense experience in managing large multi-discipline and multi-cultural teams in diverse environments.

Phillipe joined TotalEnergies in 1990 and pursued an operational career up to the level of Technical Director at TotalEnergies EP Gabon from September 2010 to November 2013. From 1990 to 2004, he held various positions in Field Operation Management at the company headquarters and in affiliates such as Nigeria and Gabon. In 2004, he embarked on a new career path as Senior Petroleum Architect Heavy Oil and later became Head of Development Studies for America until 2008 and subsequently for Africa until 2010.

Among his many achievements, Phillipe is recognised for having successfully and safely managed large development projects associated with complex operations including his recent assignments (Gabon, Indonesia, Bolivia and Denmark).

Phillipe holds a Master of Science Degree in Electronics from ENSEEIHT- Higher Education Institute (France).
