Eng. Dr. Michael Mugerwa is a chemical engineer, with over 32 years of professional technical and management experience in the global oil, gas and renewable energy industry.
He currently works with Uganda Refinery Holding Company, a subsidiary of Uganda National Oil Company.
His areas of expertise include process engineering, project management, project controls, risk management, contracts, safety, oil refinery technologies, fuel cell systems, and geothermal power plants.
Mugerwa is in the lead of managing the construction of the expected 60,000-barrel oil refinery in Kabalega Industrial Park in Hoima District.

Mugerwa holds a Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD degrees in Chemical Engineering, all from the University of Manchester, UK. His postgraduate research focused on characterising and modelling pore structures in oil-bearing sandstones and petrochemical catalysts.
He is also a Chartered Engineer (UK) and a fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers.
