Abdul Bazara Byakagaba is a seasoned Petroleum Geoscientist holding three Master’s Degrees, specializing in Petroleum Geoscience from Reading University, Strategic Planning and Oil/Gas Management from Edinburgh Business School, Heriot-Watt University, United Kingdom.
With over 30 years of hands-on experience, Byakagaba has worked with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, Heritage Oil and Gas Limited, Tullow Oil Limited and lately, Oranto Petroleum Limited.
He has demonstrated expertise in project management, strategic planning, negotiations, and petroleum exploration, having played a pivotal role in the discovery of the Kingfisher and Jobi/Rii oil fields. Currently serving as the General Manager of Oranto Petroleum Limited – Uganda, Byakagaba brings an extensive background in managing oil operations, ensuring compliance, and fostering stakeholder management.
Byakagaba has played a big role in guiding and coordinating teams of consultants for the Ngassa petroleum exploration resource and economic assessment, identifying five drilling locations that increased the petroleum resource potential in the block.
He has also been at the forefront of coordinating all work programs, including technical studies as agreed in the Production Sharing Agreements which recently resulted in the successful renewals of the license.
Byakagaba previously served as Deputy Transition Manager at Tullow Oil between 2010 – 2015 where he successfully coordinated the integration of Heritage/Tullow Oil staff, assets, operations and procedures.
He also served as Principal Geologist at the Ministry of Energy & Mineral Development (1992 – 2004) where he coordinated and supervised a team of geoscientists in mapping, reporting, and compiling promotional materials that led to licensing oil companies.
