Sophie Mwamula is a qualified professional accountant with over 15 years of diverse international experience in leading full-cycle accounting, treasury and balance sheet management, financial and forensic audits, IFRS and ERP implementation, and accounting aspects of mergers and acquisitions. She is trusted by businesses and corporations to make complex financial, strategic and leadership decisions.
Sophie currently works as a Manager, Global Accounting Policy & Procedures at Scotiabank’s headquarters in Toronto.

Sophie, has in this role, been instrumental in the implementation of a new International Financial Reporting Standard, IFRS 17 Insurance Contracts across the bank’s global insurance operations, a significant milestone in the Bank’s operations.
Before joining the bank, Sophie worked at Manulife Financial Corporation in a global treasury finance function where she participated in the issuance of new debt and capital instruments in both the Canadian and International markets.

Before immigrating to Canada, Sophie was the Chief Finance Officer (CFO) of the Commercial Bank of Africa – CBA Uganda (now NCBA Uganda) where she was instrumental in the implementation of IFRS 9 Financial Instruments, strategic planning and the corporate merger process.
Sophie has also previously worked as a CFO at the Uganda Securities Exchange Ltd, the principal stock exchange in Uganda, where she was instrumental in the implementation of the automated trading System for listed stocks, rebranding and streamlining of human resource and financial processes at the Exchange. Sophie also worked at Deloitte as an auditor which honed her skills in internal and external auditing and laid the foundation of her accounting career.
Outside of her professional pursuits, Sophie is passionate about people and social change in communities as demonstrated through her active involvement in Rotary International (RI) as an RI Foundation Technical Advisor (Accounting & Audit) and as a member of the Rotary Club of Mississauga in Canada.
Sophie holds a Master of Business Administration from Heriot-Watt University (UK), a Bachelor of Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University (UK) and a Bachelor of Commerce from Makerere University, Uganda.
She is also a member of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario (CPA Ontario) in Canada and a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA).
