Ugandan Journalist Afedraru Lominda has been named among 6 African finalists for the 2015 African Press Organization (APO) Energy Media Award. These awards are to be held alongside the Africa Energy Forum in Dubai this weekend from Friday 8th to Monday 11th May 2015. Lominda was recognized for her article in The Daily Monitor dated 25th March 2015 and titled ‘Despite Challenges, Uganda’s energy sector grows (http://www.apo.af/Blzp7z).

Other finalists include; Patrick Mayoyo of Kenya for his article ‘How the call to divest from fossil fuel is rattling the African continent (http://www.apo.af/slNVI9), Maureen Odiwuor of Kenya for her article ‘Don’s cheap freezer that keeps produce farm fresh’ (http://www.apo.af/nsXFF8), Allan Akombo of Kenya for his piece ‘Why coal is key for Kenya’s power needs despite protests by the West’ and James Karuga also Kenyan for ‘Turning blood to power, Maasai pastoralists begin bottling biogas’ (http://www.apo.af/TVc1lX).

Hailing from Ghana, Kofi Adu Domfeh is the only West African on the list. He is recognized for his piece ‘Future Concern Is No Longer About Energy Security But Climate Change’ (http://www.apo.af/9iKBLw).

The winners will be announced during the Africa Energy Forum in Dubai The first-place winner will attend the Forum and gets one year of access to over 600 airport VIP lounges worldwide.

The APO Energy Media Awards celebrates brilliant and inspiring stories about Energy in Africa. The subject matter may comprise a single topic or a variety of subjects, including – but not limited to – oil, gas, electricity, geothermal energy, hydropower, solar energy, wind power, nuclear, coal, biomass and more.
