A good journalist is one who can tell a story that is accurate, relevant, truthful, engaging, credible, authoritative, informative and educative. The story should also provide context, create a platform for debate and offer a voice to the voiceless. An effective fourth estate is therefore one that interacts well with the other 3 arms of government including Judiciary, Executive and Legislature to be able to tell a good story. The biggest challenge facing most Ugandan journalists however is intimidation.

This is according to Justice James Ogoola the former Principal Judge of Uganda and current Chair of The Elders Forum, who was speaking at the 3rd Annual Journalism Awards held at Golf Course Hotel last evening.

Mogens Pedersen the Danish Ambassador to Uganda agreed with Ogoola revealing that in the electioneering period between November 2015 and February 2016, 17 journalists were assaulted by police.
