Facebook has identified Uganda as one of its growth markets alongside countries like Kenya Tanzania, Rwanda and Ethiopia to mention but a few. The company plans to partner with governments, telecom operators, agencies and other stakeholders in these countries to deliver localized solutions to advertisers and users.

In addition, it will continue to focus on tailoring solutions, metrics and ad formats to the needs of customers and advertisers in the mobile-first, mobile-only African environment.

This was revealed during the opening of the company’s first office in Africa. Located in Johannesburg South Africa, the office is headed by Ogilvy veteran, Nunu Ntshingila, the company’s new Head of Africa. With this move Facebook aims at furthering the company’s commitment to help businesses connect with people and grow locally and regionally.

Facebook is already an important part of how people and business connect in Africa. The company’s active user population in Africa has grown 20% to 120 million as of June 2015 from 100 million in September 2014. More than 80% of these people access Facebook from their mobile phones.
