According to the Global Status on Alcohol and Health, Uganda has the highest per capita consumption of alcohol in the East African region at 23.7 liters. While this consumption is mostly of locally brewed and unregulated alcohol, there is a big percentage of Ugandans consuming regulated alcohol. It is this percentage that most alcoholic beverage companies are targeting to capitalize on sales. The Kampala social scene is awash with alcohol tasting events some big and expensive others intimate and small for all kinds of spirits in the market.
To this end, Vicland Distributors the country distributors of Pernord Ricard France have embarked on a venue styling strategy to sell their spirits. The company which has been in the country for 2 years recently set up the first Absolut Club at Big Mikes bar in Kampala recently to promote sales of Absolut Vodka, one of the products on its portfolio.
