Who is William Ruto, Kenya’s 5th President
William Samoei Arap Ruto had today been declared the 5th Kenyan President after a hotly contested election. He had stood on the UDA ticket. Ruto was neck to neck with Raila Odinga – who was contesting for the fifth time. According to the Kenya’s Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), Ruto beat his rival Odinga after garnering 50.49% of the vote. Ruto has been Deputy President of Kenya since 2013. In the 2013 presidential election, Ruto was elected the Deputy President alongside President Uhuru Kenyatta under the Jubilee Alliance ticket. Ruto was a Member of Parliament (MP) from 1998 to 2013.
