The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) is receiving applications for the third cohort of the Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (CPA-U) scholarships. According to the Institute, the programme is a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of ICPAU, which aims to support the nurturing of young talent in professional accountancy. ICPAU meets the costs for registration, study materials and examinations. CPA Constant Othieno Mayende is the new Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) president. Mayende was elected during the Council of the ICPAU’s 26th Annual general meeting together with CPA Josephine Ossiya as Vice President. The election comes after the High Court ruling delivered by Justice Musa Sekaana on 23 July 2021. Female candidates overwhelmingly performed better in the March 2021 Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (CPA) examinations. This was revealed by CPA Prof. Twaha Kaawaase, the chairperson of the Public Accountants Examinations Board (PAEB) at a virtual release of the examinations results on 1 April 2021. Budadiri West MP James Nathan Nandala Mafabi has sued the Institute of Certified Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) for denying him and his company, MTC Associates, a license to practice this year.
