Seasoned communications expert and veteran journalist, Simon Peter Kasyate is joining Mastercard Foundation, Uganda as the Program Communications Lead, CEO East Africa Magazine can exclusively reveal.

Simon, who already tendered in his resignation at Uganda Electricity Generation Company Limited (UEGCL) where he has been the Corporate Affairs Manager since May 2016, officially starts work at the Foundation on August 3rd 2020, according to our sources at Mastercard Foundation.

Headquartered in Toronto, Ontario Canada, the Mastercard Foundation is a not-for-profit arm of Mastercard Incorporated- an American multinational financial services corporation. Its mission is to advance education and financial inclusion in developing countries.

Simon boasts of combined experience of twenty years in active journalism as well as in the Corporate Communications/Relations space across private and public sectors.

At UEGCL, he will best be remembered for leading efforts in the development and growth of a revamped UEGCL brand as well as growing the government-owned electricity generation agency’s reputation through, among others, a robust community engagement strategy, Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives all of which have led to a greater general appreciation of UEGCL’s contribution to the National Development Agenda and Vision 2040. He is also credited for building a strong in-house communication team.

Prior to UEGCL, Simon worked for Eskom Uganda Limited as the Corporate Affairs Manager as well as a Current Affairs Show Host at NTV Uganda. He has also served as a Press & Information Officer at the European Union Delegation to Uganda.

Before the European Union, he also worked as a journalist at Monitor Publications Ltd, Uganda Broadcasting Corporation and Wavah Broadcasting Services (WBS-TV).

During his journalism career, he won a number of awards, namely, the CNN Africa Journalist of the Year Award (2004); the Uganda Golden Pen Journalist of the Year (2005); Uganda Investigative journalist of the year 2008 (TV) and the Overall winner, Uganda Investigative journalist of the year 2008.

Simon holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, a Master of Arts in International Relation and Diplomatic Studies and is currently pursuing a Master of Business Administration (MBA).
