Uganda Securities Exchange (USE) registered less activity this week as turnover further reduced to Ushs 494.52 million from Ushs 5.25 billion last week.
Umeme had the highest turnover with Ushs 484.91 million from 881,662 shares exchanged. Its share price held steady at Ushs 550. Stanbic Bank Uganda share price was down 6.9% to a new 12 month low of Ushs 27. The counter had 270,447 shares changing hands to record a turnover of Ushs 7.81 million
Uganda Clays Limited (UCL) and National Insurance Corporation (NIC) moved 101,426 shares and 22,950 shares to generate turnover of Ushs 1.52 million and Ushs 270,650 respectively. UCL share price was stable at Ushs 15 while NIC lost 8.33% to Ushs 11.
Among the cross listings, East African Breweries Limited (EABL)made the biggest gain of 2.08% to Ushs 9,134 while Uchumi Supermarkets was the biggest loser as its price shed 5.03% to end the week at Ushs 151.
The USE All Share Index ended Friday’s trading session at 1,767.63 representative of a 0.17% drop from last week. The USE Local Share Index and C8 fell by 1.66% and 2.19% to end the week at 403.66 and 127.01 respectively.
The Ugandan shilling was relatively firm buoyed by a reduction in dollar demand from corporates and tight liquidity for the local currency. It was quoted at 3,305.4 against the US Dollar as at Friday midday which is an appreciation from the past week’s close of 3,334.7
