Rajiv Ruparelia, the Managing Director of the Ruparelia Group, one of East Africa’s largest multisectoral conglomerates, has been named a Choiseul 100 Africa 2024 laureate.
Created in 2014 and now in its 10th edition, the Choiseul 100 Africa lists prominent and influential 100 business leaders under 40—the Economic Leaders of Tomorrow.
According to Pascal Lorot, the President of Choiseul Africa, the 2024 list “honours leaders from diverse sectors such as new technologies, finance, energy, agriculture, and healthcare.”
“This diversity reflects the continent’s economic richness and capacity to innovate in response to contemporary challenges. The laureates of the Choiseul 100 Africa are more than entrepreneurs or decision-makers: they are the drivers of an economic and social transformation that extends beyond Africa’s borders,” he said in a prelude to the ranking.
Institut Choiseul for International Politics and Geoeconomics is an independent research centre based in Paris, France, that analyses international relations, economic and political strategies, and cultures.

Born in January 1990, Rajiv assumed the Group Managing Director role in 2017; he has led the Group through extraordinary growth, creating over 15,000 new jobs, both inside the Group and externally, through the Group labour externalisation subsidiaries.
The Ruparelia Group is a USD1 billion family business established in 1985 by Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia, now the Group Chairman. The Group’s diverse portfolio spans financial services, real estate, education, hospitality, construction, agriculture, and media. It directly employs over 8,500 Ugandans.
Regarding the recognition, Dr Sudhir Ruparelia said he “couldn’t be prouder to congratulate Rajiv on being recognised in the Choiseul 100 Africa 2024”.
“This prestigious recognition highlights the top 100 young African leaders under 40 who are significantly impacting the continent’s future. Rajiv’s hard work, vision, and dedication to excellence have truly set him apart,” said the Ruparelia Group patriarch.

“His contributions to Ruparelia Group have been remarkable, as he has consistently brought innovative ideas and strategies that have propelled the company to new heights. His leadership has played a vital role in shaping our company’s success and expanding its influence within Uganda and beyond. Being named the only young leader in Uganda for this award is an incredible honour, and it reflects the dedication and commitment Rajiv has shown throughout his career. Rajiv, your achievements inspire those around you, and I am excited to see how you will continue to influence the future,” added Dr. Ruparelia.
Other prominent East Africans on the list include Daniel Kiptoo Bargoria, the General Director of the Kenyan Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority; Regis Rugemanshuro, the Chief Executive Officer of Rwanda Social Security Fund; and Fatema Dewji, the Marketing Director of Tanzania’s MeTL Group. Others are Jesca Mhoja Nkwabi, the Chief Executive Officer of KOM Group of Companies, and George Gachara, the Founder and Chairman of the Board of HEVA Fund LLP.
