Dr. Simon Kagugube, the Executive Director of Centenary Bank, one of Uganda’s largest three banks, has passed on.
He breathed his last today, February 15th 2020 at Nakasero Hospital.
He was aged 65 years.
Mr. Kagugube has been Centenary Bank’s Executive Director since 2003 and at one time serve as Acting Managing Director in 2010.
Between January 1994 – December 1999, worked as the Commissioner, Value Added Tax and Income Tax at URA and between January 2000 – December 2002, he worked as Director, Tax and Legal Services at PriceWaterhouseCoopers from whence he joined Centenary Bank in January 2003 as Executive Director.
At the time of death, he was also the board chairman for Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) and Monitor Publications Limited (MPL). He also sat on the Nation Media Group- MPL’s parent company in Nairobi.
He joined the NMG Board as an independent non-executive director in September 2011 and was a member of the Audit, Risk and Compliance Committee.
He studied at Makerere University, where he graduated with a Bachelors of Laws Degree, majoring in Corporate Law and Taxation; Civil and Criminal Law; Law of Banking and Negotiable Instruments.
Dr. Simon Kagugube also held a Ph.D in International Humanitarian Law, a Doctor of Science of Law in Immigration, Refugees and Asylum Law and a Masters of Laws in Corporation Law, Taxation and International Trade Systems, all from Yale University (USA).
